1. Soul of a Nation -- The Broad
August is the last month to catch this special exhibition at The Broad in DTLA. An added bonus -- every Thursday in August admission is FREE (regular admission prices the other days).
Featuring the work of 60+ artists in the "Age of Black Power" this exhibit covers artistic expression beginning in 1963, at the height of the civil rights movement.

2. FREE Saturday Night Concerts -- Pershing Square DTLA
I usually like to spread the event love around the entire county, but Pershing Square made me double up on DTLA with this FREE concert series.
Featuring everyone from REO Speedwagon to Sheila E to Blues Traveler, the outdoor performances run through August 17th.
And don't forget to check out the Wednesday afternoon farmer's market concerts for up and coming bands.

3. FREE Shakespeare in the (Griffith) Park -- Los Feliz
Sure, Central Park has the more famous version of Shakespeare in the Park, but Griffith Park is catching up...
In the Old Zoo portion of Griffith Park, audiences are treated to performances on a weekly basis. This season they have Twelfth Night and Pericles as the headliners.
Food & drink vendors are on site, so bring some cash for goodies and a picnic blanket and enjoy the show!
