What should you do with an outdoor space?

A couple posts back, I wrote about the increase in value that comes with having a well-defined outdoor space.

In Los Angeles, any exterior (no matter how small) can be designed in such a way as to maximize your return on investment. Buyers appreciate an area to enjoy to LA weather.

But what should you put in that outdoor space? See the graphic below for a few ideas...

Definitely heed the suggestion of "low-maintenance" --- upkeep of a finicky outdoor area can eat into your investment, and scare potential buyers.
